This is the first process of planning time. To plan schedule management, we need to refer the following:
- Scope baseline (which indicates the scope statement and Work Breakdown Structure that we discussed last week),
- Project charter (which explains the schedule in summary and approved requirements for the project)
- Enterprise Environmental factor (which explains the availability of resources, skills, work authorization, structure of the organization as well as software used for scheduling the project)
- Organizational Process Assets (which explain all about scheduling control methods and tools used from the previous projects)
Also we can have a meeting with project sponsor, project team, key stakeholders, experts and anyone who is responsible and skilled in planning the schedule. Involving them will help to analyse the best tools, methodologies, approaches and formats to use for schedule management.
The schedule management plan as an output of this process will contain the following as few:
- Project schedule methodology and tools
- Acceptance range for activity duration.
- Units for resource measurements such as staff working time and quantity measures like kilometers, liters etc
- Control thresholds or acceptable variations from the parameters established in the baseline plan
- Reporting formats and frequencies
- Processes descriptions of schedule management etc
