Project Management can be accomplished by understanding, applying and
integrating the 47 logical processes which are divided into 5 major
process groups. These are:
1. Initiating
2. Planning
3. Executing
4. Monitoring and Controlling
5. Closing
Initiating Process Group consists of two (2) processes performed to obtain an authorization to start the project
Planning Process Group consists of twenty four (24) processes performed to develop the project management plan and project documents that will be used to carry out the project. They help to organize and prepare everything needed for the project before putting into actions.
Executing Process Group consist of eight (8) processes performed to carry out formally the activities that have been defined in the Project management Plan
Monitoring and Controlling Process Group consist of eleven (11) processes performed to track and review the progress of the project, identify the variance (change) from the plan and correct it.
Closing Process Group consist of two (2) processes performed to complete or end the project formally
• The five (5) process groups all together create the project life cycle.
• Each process has an input (what the project will consume), Tools and
Techniques (what will change the input to output) as well as Output
(what the project will produce from the input). They are called process
basic attributes.
