This is the forth process of planning time where by type and quantity of the resource for each activity to be performed is allocated. The resource can be in form of material, equipment, supplies or human resource.
Estimating the activity resources, requires to refer:
- The activity list document where by all the activities that need resources were mentioned.
- Schedule management plan which explains the measure of resources to be estimated.
- Resource Calendars which explain the availability of the resources during the project period.
- Enterprise Environmental Factors which explain resource allocations, availability and skills.
- Organizational Process Assets which explain the procedures and policies of staffing, purchasing supplies or rental as well as the lessons learnt in the process of estimate activities resources from the previous similar projects.
The process can also be done by using experts in allocating the resources, by doing analysis of resources basing on the skills and capabilities to determine the more preferable one (whether it needs a handy work or machinery) thus make a decision of either rental or buy the resource, and by doing bottom-up estimates where by the resource of every activity is allocated through the use of Work Breakdown Structure.
The output of this process is Activity Resource Requirements which identify type, category and quantity of resources needed for each activity.
